On Monday, August 17th, 1795, the enslaved people at plantation “Kenepa” told the owner, “we’re not going to work today. We want our freedom!” This action became the biggest slavery resistance in Curaçao’s history. The Tula Museum is a community museum with a pioneering and innovative concept of a museum without walls. The location of the museum is a historical heritage plantation, where the great slave revolt of 1795 began under the leadership of Tula, who was enslaved at this plantation.
