What is the parking and gas situation in Curaçao?
Parking your car is not a problem and is usually free. Paid parking is only found in certain streets in downtown Willemstad during the day. You will recognize a paid parking spot by the number painted on the road next to the spot. When you use a paid parking spot you'll find a solar-powered blue pillar nearby where you can pay the parking fee upfront. They require coins of either 25 cents, 1 guilder or 5 guilders and the standard rate is 1 guilder per hour.
Gas stations are abundant in Willemstad, but the further you move away from Willemstad, the less gas stations you'll find. If you plan to go for a long drive, be sure to fill up beforehand. At most gas stations you choose the pump you'd like to use, wait for your turn, park the car at the pump, and then pay at the counter before filling up. Some gas stations will have attendants who are more than happy to help you. Usually they will expect a small tip (which is by no means mandatory).
The price per liter is the same everywhere on the island and is posted on the pump itself. Credit cards are not accepted at gas stations, but debit cards and cash (Guilders or Dollars) are.
